That Time Gran Left...

Gran was fortunate enough to be given an opportunity to travel to Italy with 16 other family members this summer.  She was hesitant to leave us, with Ben being only 6 weeks old.  That's just the kind of Gran she is!  But I told her she was crazy to pass up the opportunity, we would manage.  BUT we really really missed her.  Tony called the day she left, thinking he was funny and asked, "So what are you going to do without Mom?"  I don't think he was expecting my sad answer of, "I don't know.  We are going to miss her so much.  Two weeks is a long time.  Not just because she is so helpful and great to the kids, but I talk to her every day!"  She came by to say bye the night before she left and the kids never recovered.  Rudy got so worked up he developed a fever.  It was probably just timing, but we were all in tears!  The next day Rudy was not himself at all.  Fever, lethargic, no smiles, etc.  The following morning he was complaining his neck hurt and I could tell he was having trouble swallowing.  I took him to the doctor first thing and sure enough, he had strep.  Next up - Avery came down with the fever that evening.  I called the doc right away and they sent over the same meds, thankfully!  Two sick kids and a newborn without my mom was no fun (oh and John was at work this day, too).  All was well in a few days after the antibiotics kicked in. But what a rough start to Gran being gone - I figured it couldn't get much worse… and it didn't… phew… Dad was helpful and came over most nights John was at work, my friends did the same and it was awesome to see them, and LeeAnn and Ray were there to help whenever they could, too!  We are so blessed to have such great friends and family!

The morning Gran was back home, she came right over to see us!
And her next free day (she ambitiously went right back to work), we had a fun morning with the kids at Southwind Park - complete with a very kid friendly playground and a splash pad!

To put it simply, I'm so glad Gran had an amazing trip but I'm so happy she is back home because there is no one else quite like your own mom!!  :)
