"Survival Kits for Law Enforcement Officers"
One night my mom friends and I got creative and planned a day of appreciation for our local police officers.  There had been a lot (A LOT) of media attention on the lack of respect for law enforcement and the many, unthinkable random acts of violence against the police force (not in our area, but close enough to home with several Dad's in the field).. so we planned the opposite.
We gathered up all the kids and decorated lots and lots of treat bags...
then made an assembly line for filling...
(Not pictured: the large boxes of donuts we also included in our drop off, because how could we not?!)
Our first stop was the Jerome police station

The kids were very impressed and so sweet, thanking the police officers for keeping them safe and doing a good job.
We also went to the Leland Grove police station
...who later shared a public 'thank you' via facebook.
It was a memorable morning for all!

GNO Celebrates 2-years!
Our Girls' Night Out group celebrated our two year anniversary of getting together monthly with an extra awesome night out on Lake Springfield.  Becky's brother lives on the lake and let us take his boat out for a cruise.  Honestly, one of my most fun times!  We had some drinks, snacks, danced to our old high school tunes, and talked and talked and talked.  I'd be lost without this group!

Rudy turns FIVE!
How is it possible?!

In true fashion, we had quite the week of celebrating!
Earlier in the summer we came across Cubs/Cardinals tickets for the weekend of his birthday.  We let him chose between the game and a big birthday party.  He chose the game!  BUT when his birthday came around, we couldn't bring ourselves to do nothing that night, so we fell into his request for inviting some friends to go to Chuck-E-Cheese.

Out for a little bike cruise...

Bathtime!

No cast!! :)
Ben wasn't scheduled to have his cast removed until the week following our trip to Chicago.  I called and requested to move up the appointment a few days so he wouldn't have to walk around Chicago and go to the game in the heat with his cast.  Thankfully, they agreed!  Bubs and I went first thing Friday morning, with John and the others back home packing up the car.  It took longer than expected in the waiting room, then the doc's room, etc.  Needless to say, Ben and I were anxious to get out of there.  After they took the cast off, he had to have it x-rayed again in order to ensure the bone had healed like it was supposed to.  The doc looked at the pictures with us and said, "You'd never have known it had cracked!" So off we went!
Two hours into our drive to Chicago, the doctor's office called and asked if we could come back in.  They were reviewing Ben's file and realized they had accidentally x-rayed the wrong arm.  Of course it looked as if it had never broken - it hadn't!!  John couldn't believe that I didn't notice when I was holding him down for the x-ray.  Oops.  Like I said, we were very anxious to get out of there!! We couldn't run back so it had to wait until Monday and all was good... nothing is ever easy :)

Birthday par-tay in Chicago!
It was a big decision on birthday cake - Tom and Jerry or Scooby Doo - so we went with both!
Waiting on the train to take us to "the city"

Of course as soon as we got off the train, it was POURING outside.  Complete and total downpour.  We bought ponchos from someone outside the station and made our way to the field, with high hopes that it would stop.  Thankfully it did, just in time for the game!
Look who we ran into!...
TWICE!
It was a high scoring game, Card 8 - Cubs 4.  If I remember right, we saw 7 home runs!
The game was a lot of fun!  Hot, but fun!
(this is also documentation to show how much these poor kids are swayed by the Cubs vs Cards battle.  If we were to do this again in 2017, the kids would NEVER wear Cardinals gear!)

Our stop into Nike Town - sweet head tattoo and an awesome braid

Rudy is still an avid Lego fanatic.  We had kept the table up from our Police Day and Rudy quickly turned it into his lego table and spent lots of time there over the next couple weeks putting together lego sets from his birthday.

Back-to-School Time!
First up, open-houses for the pre-k rooms.  Drop off supplies, check out the classroom, meet the teachers...

Rudy started full-time pre-k!  It was so hard leaving him for a long day, but we all survived!

Avery was thrilled for her first day!

And Ben finally had some alone time with Mom and Dad!

Clowns.  All of them.  All. The. Time.
