Baby Girl

I'm pregnant?  Oh that's right.

I had our 24 week check-up appointment last week.  Rudy came with me because John had to meet the countertop guy.  Of course Rudy was a charmer to anyone who would look his way in the waiting room and with the nurses.  He sure knows how to work a crowd when he wants to.

Oddly, he got very upset the second anyone touched me.  He was fine and happy and not shy at all, but as soon as the nurse put the cuff on to take my blood pressure he flipped out, real tears and all.  When the nurse was listening for the baby's heartbeat, I had to have him sit across my lap while I laid down.  And even then he cried and reached out to me.  So he had to lay next to me (which was a little tight if you consider the size of the doctor beds), while continuing to cry and giving a pitifully sad face to the nurse until she backed off.  Then he was happy and wanted down right away.  Same routine when the doctor measured me and the lap tech took my blood.  Broke my heart.  Poor guy did not want anyone getting too close to his mom!  Not that he wanted to stay close (because he loves to run away), he just didn't want anyone else to.  A couple weekends ago Rudy and I went to visit Dominic and Levi.  He was perfectly content and happy (on his own -- playing, exploring, getting into anything in sight, etc) until I held Dominic or until Levi showed interest in me.  He more or less pushed them off of me.  These recent reactions are making me a tad nervous for when the new baby comes!

Anyway...

I had to take a glucose test and thankfully my levels were not even close to the "problem" level (and I say thankfully because it would be very hard to give up sugar!)

My blood pressure was right on target and the baby's heart rate was a strong 149.

I say "baby" because we are still no where near agreement on a name...our favorites and our front runners change almost daily.

Overall, pregnancy-wise, I'm feeling pretty good.  I feel ginormous already and it's starting to get more and more difficult to bend over to pick up toys (or Rudy, even).  Sleep is so-so.  I still have a good night here and there.  Looking back at my pictures when I was pregnant with Rudy, I know I have a lot more baby to grow and I don't know how I'm going to get around then!

  1. Love the first line; so funny that it's so "routine" now! :) You're still an adorable pregnant lady - look at your tiny arm in that pick. Still all belly! Sam just had her 24 week appt. and was surprised to find out that after the next one, they'll be every 2 weeks. Can't wait to meet both new babies!!
