Keeping "Busy" ...and Warm

Since it has been so frigidly cold around here, I have not been too motivated to leave our warm house.  We have had to get creative to keep things interesting around home.  So in addition to the holiday crafts and projects we've done, we have also come up with a few others...

Like this pipe cleaner container. I had saved a couple containers, cleaned them out, popped holes in the lids, cut pipe cleaners in half and we had a fun new game of putting all the pipe cleaners in each hole, then fun pulling them all out. Seems simple enough, but I was able to make dinner while the kids played contently!

Avery couldn't quite put them in, but she pulled each one out.
Rudy has been quite the handy helper.  We were tired of picking up toys that had been dumped out of baskets.  We wouldn't mind if all those toys were played with, but it seemed that the fun part was the dumping and that lasts about 5 seconds and makes for a huge mess.  So we ordered these new bins and Rudy dove right into action.  And now when they get out all their toys, they get played with or it takes longer than 5 seconds to empty out them all out... success!

I wanted to see how Avery would do in a booster seat (I'm already anxious to get rid of the high chair that seems to take up a lot of room!).  And what do ya know.. Rudy insisted on getting in Avery's seat since she was in his.  Crazy kids.  Unfortunately, the booster is a no go for Avery right now.  She sits in it fine and could eat and reach food fine, but when she wanted out or dropped things, she leaned over to the side so much and I can't trust her not to topple the whole chair over.  Oh well.. better get used to the high chair around for awhile anyway!
Another fun activity... blanket rides!  Again something so simple, but the kids had a blast.  Before I had the camera out, they were giggling and giggling.  We must have gone up and down the hallway 20 times.  And then Rudy gave his animals a ride, too.  Gotta keep 'em entertained!
She's not all sugar, folks...
One day we did venture out in the cold (we had to get groceries at some point!) to WalMart.  I'm usually a Target shopper, but needed too much for Target's limited grocery section so we went for WalMart instead.  And WalMart it has been since!  They have lots of these carts and the kids did SO well.  They were pretty proud sitting in their seats, and acted like it was a ride.  Rudy kept saying, "Let's go, Mom!"  Perk for me.. they couldn't reach the food I was loading in the cart (which means no tears over wanting to open it all), and for the first time in a LONG time, I had an entire cart I could fill up!...of course the cart is about 8 feet long so navigating was a bit different, but well worth any difficulty!
We have been working on putting the finishing touches on the master bathroom.  I filled it up with all our stuff, but had to end up putting it all on top of the counter instead.  I've been getting ready in there and since I can't ever do anything alone, I have some curious kids at my feet.  Next on the list:  Child safety locks.  Need to keep those kids out of the cabinets... literally!

You'd think it was summer if you happened to pop by our house.  Avery is on the move and diaper changes are a challenge.  She can roll over and crawl away so fast, sometimes she gets away.  In this case she did and Rudy saw her without clothes on and quickly stripped his down...
We have also been playing a lot of hide and seek.  This was one of my favorites of Rudy's hiding places...
Oh and Rudy came up with this one on his own... his home made pillow pit.

How that daredevil has avoided a broken bone amazes me.
And Avery was not missing out on that fun... she was quick to try and lunge into the pillows!..I couldn't even get to her slow down enough for a focused picture
Just a random story to share... Avery was making a mess of her pasta one night, which isn't that unusual.  But one night (who knows why?), Rudy didn't think it was a good thing and kept saying, "Ohhh Sissy.. Oh no!" with a look of sincere concern on his face.  Which Avery found hilarious and encouraged her to make even more of a mess!  She was putting her messy hands through her hair, covering her eyes, ears... and each time looking to Rudy for him to react.

That's all for now!  Any indoor activities you know of to keep us busy, feel free to share!
