Snow, Snow, Go Away

...you know the popular Spring song, usually sung "Rain, Rain, Go Away"... welllllll...

Springfield had a record 17" snowfall March 24-25.  They were reporting a snow storm coming through, but I was in denial.  The day before the high was near 50 and the boys were outside playing and we grilled out... no way was Mother Nature going to rain on this parade... but I was wrong.  Really wrong.  It snowed and snowed and snowed.  Gran was over and ended up getting snowed in at our house.  It was declared a Level 2 Emergency and no one was to be on the roads unless completely necessary.  Papa got called into work at 11:00 am on Sunday and didn't get off work until 7:00 am on Monday.  And then trying to leave on Monday morning, Gran got stuck in our driveway (along with our neighbors).  It was (and still is) a snowy mess!

Here's a view of our courtyard:
The Easter eggs Gran and Rudy hung up a couple weeks ago are completely hidden.

And I stole this picture from our next-door neighbor who crossed the street to take a picture of the creek in front of our house... so pretty...but so not welcomed in Spring!

So what to do when we are snowed in for a day????  Finally paint the birdhouse Gran had brought over weeks before!  We stripped Rudy down (even though the paint was washable!), except he wouldn't let us take off his shoes, and let him have at it.

Avery wanted to be part of the activity.  She likes to keep a close eye on her big brother!
 "This guy is crazy"

And I'm not sure what has more paint...Rudy's birdhouse or his belly!
The birdhouse is backless because we are going to hang it on one of the windows so Rudy can see birds in it from inside our house.. how fun is that??  Rudy is going to love it.  One of his favorite things to do is look out the windows and try and find birds or squirrels...and he is SO happy when he spots one!

Rudy wanted a popsicle for a snack... looks like a bright, sunny day behind him, huh?

Here's when I switch the focus...

Rudy has kicked his highchair to the curb.  He was fighting it for awhile.  He never wanted to get in it and when he did, he was always trying to stand up in it, much to our frustration.  So I finally bought a booster seat (that he is strapped into) and he is sooo much happier!

Following our snowed-in day, Rudy came down with a stomach bug.  He spent the early morning through mid-afternoon throwing up.  When we (because Gran was still over) went into his room about 6:30 on Monday morning, he had thrown up all over himself and his crib.  He had woke up around 4:30 that morning, but I just thought it was like the other times he randomly wakes up early, and made him "cry it out" until he fell back asleep again.  I felt (and still feel) like the worst mom ever for that.  He seemed fine that morning, though, until about 10:30.  He was crabbier than usual and just wanted to sit on the couch and snuggle.  About 11:00 he asked (in his way) to go back to him room to rock (which is so unusual!) and he fell asleep by 11:30.  I came out and about noon he started crying.  Through the monitor I could tell something was off.  He was hunched over crying and then just sitting up crying.  Normally when he wants out and cries, he stands at the same corner and reaches for the door.  So I went in and he had again thrown up on himself and the bed.  We stripped the bed again and gave him a quick outfit change and went into our bed.  He could barely keep his eyes open he was so tired and he just whimpered.  Poor guy did not feel good.  Then back in our bed, just as we got settled in, he threw up again.  Quick outfit change and sheet change (yet again)... third times a charm, right?  We at least had a system down when he again threw up and it didn't require a sheet or outfit change that time (high-five Mom and Dad!).  By 1:00 he was done throwing up and was able to fall asleep.  Thankfully, Avery was asleep during all of this!  Our water bill will probably be doubled from all the sheets/blankets/outfits we washed that day.  When he woke up from his nap at 3:30, he was a new man and so far so good.  He never had a fever, either... I don't know what that was but I'm glad its over.

Finger-crossed (and lots of Lysol), this little peach stays healthy!
